Conditional Design
Taken from www.conditionaldesign.org
In the third workshop, Conditional design was introduced to us. Conditional design is a type of design method "in which conditions and rules of play are drawn up that invite cooperation within a ‘regulated’ process towards an unpredictable design or result". We were asked to complete four different exercises during this workshop which were taken from the conditional design workbook; 'The Perfect Circle, Hatching, The Beach and FluxFold.
This an example of a piece of conditional design which was taken from the original conditional design website.
This is a conditional design workbook which was designed Julia Born.
The Perfect Circle
The first exercise was The perfect circle. We were told to get into groups of four and read the rules and apply it. On the right are the rules that were given to us.
The second exercise was called Hatching.
Hatching
The third exercise is called 'The Beach'. This exercise was the simplest one in comparison to the other exercises.
The Fourth exercise is called 'FluxFold'. This exercise was actually very tricky, and took a while for us to understand.
On the left is a picture of the folded sheet, along with my colleague drawing dots in random places.
The final result
Mini Presentation of everyones group work
It was very lovely seeing everyones work and the differences between each group. This proves that every single person will produce a different outcome but at the same time a similar one. Some students including myself explained what our group did and the different techniques we used to surpass our limitation which was time.
